Aberdeen is situated on the North East coast of Scotland, its known as the Granite City as most of its buildings incorporate locally quarried grey granite. Archeologists suggest that there has been a settlement in the area for the last 8000 years. Robert the Bruce awarded Aberdeen Royal Burgh status in 1319 and the University of Aberdeen was founded in 1495.
The traditional industries of fishing, shipbuilding and textiles were over taken by the oil industry when oil was discovered in the North sea in the late 1960's.
Currently Aberdeen has a population of over 200,000 people and is Scotland's third largest city.
